A Virtual Cemetery created by Christine Usdin

Jewish cemetery of Vishki

The Jewish cemetery remains on the banks of Visku lake. When I was there in 1994 the tombstones were hidden bybush of the forest which covers half of the cemetery. Some of the stones had sunk into the ground and wereonly partially readable. In July 2008 a german priest Klaus Peter Rex was there with a group of young people to retore thecemetery. They cut the grass, pull out the small vegetation and tried to find stones under the ground.Theerected some stones, documented every stone, made the inscriptions visible with foam and crayon and made amap. They also found several stones near the fence, ready to be brought as many stones have been stolen.
