Burke Cemetery

Location: Bollinger Rd Carson CityCrystal TownshipMontcalm County MIIn 2012 I was asked by the current Crystal Township caretaker to help re-create a record of the burials in Burke Cemetery as the original records were destroyed at some point by one of the previous caretakers(not Crystal Township).I agreed to help out. I walked into a cemetery where some of the names were familiar but I had no personal ties to them. I now feel as though I am connected to all of the people who are buried there.I have walked the cemetery countless times row by row. Documented and photographed each headstone that was clear enough to read. I also have researched several records in hopes to figure out the headstones that have been damaged,removed,sunk into the ground or no longer can be read due to the wear on the stone.I still am researching to this day.This project has made me aware of the need for people such as myself to take initiative when you come across small seemingly forgotten cemeteries.This is the resting place of those who have helped create the towns in which we live. I believe we at least owe those people a decent place to lie for all of eternity. What if it were you in a forgotten cemetery with a sinking or broken headstone?
