1. Brian Akira Kanzaki (1953-2010)[He attended John Bowne High School and graduated with me in June 1971. Brian was part of a click of fellows there that I occasionally interacted with. He always liked to say things that were pushing the envelope a little - just to test reactions. I saw little of him after my graduation, and next learned of him really in 2010 when I learned he was gravely ill. At this point I was surprised to find that he attended my law school a few years after I graduated - unlike me he passed the bar and went to work as civil liberties defender. He also was frequently going to the Strand to buy books, and I never saw him there. I did speak to him a few days before he died on the telephone. It was sad. He died too young.]
