A Virtual Cemetery created by Marci King

German POW WWII

My father Willman I King was a German POW during WWII. He was captured and by ther Germans while serving in North Africa. The Western Union Telegraph sent to his father is dated January 8 1943. Camp 59 in Servigliano, Italy is the first POW camp he was held in. From there he was moved several times across Europe to other "Camps". Dad and his fellow POW's were liberated in May of 1945 by the Russian Army. His story, in his own words is posted on https://camp59survivors.wordpress.com/list-of-camp-59-prisoners/One of the few belongihe brought back home with him was a small prayer book with the names and addresses of 50 plus other POW's.In this virtual Cemetery it is my hope to bring them all together again. Their shared experiences as POW's was a significant part of my fathers life. So much so he named one of his six sons Delvaughn in honor of fellow POW Del Vaughn Elliott. May all of these brave souls rest in peace.
