Civil War Monument - Peterborough, NH

This monument stands in front of the former Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Hall on Grove Street in Peterborough, NH and was dedicated on June 17, 1870. The statue was designed by Martin Milmore, Esq., of Boston, and cast by the Ames Manufacturing Company, at Chicopee, Mass. The 1870 tablet lists the names of 43 soldiers and two civilians from Peterborough whose lives were lost during the Civil War. The 2011 tablet includes two additional names omitted in error from the original plaque. The purpose of this Virtual Cemetery is to link each individual listed on this monument to their respective graves. Some are buried in Peterborough; others elsewhere.Tracy Messer, Peterborough, NH, Memorial Day 2014
