Soldiers wrecked church to make corrals during Civil War. 1840 Indian Cemetery.A log church was built in 1840 adjacent to the Shawnee Indian Cemetery. Those on the building committee were Rev Thomas Johnson, Capt Joseph Parks and Charles Bluejacket. The church also served as a council house for the Shawnee Indian and was supposedly for the first meeting place of the Johnson County officers on Sep 7, 1857 when Gum Springs [Shawnee]was the county seat.
