Rose Hill Cemetery

Claggett Spangler, the renowned painter, was born in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland in 1848 the son of Charles and Rebecca Spangler. He was active painting mostly in Maryland, Harpers Ferry, Virginia as well as in Pennsylvania. He did many landscapes and a few portraits (Robert E. Lee) including those of some family members and himself. His work also included European streets and countryside scenes, some true to life and some in an impressionistic style. His works can be seen in the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD, the Miller House also in Hagerstown and in US embassies. He died in 1911 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown, Maryland.
