Jonathan K. T. Smith in his Tombstone Inscriptions from "Black Cemeteries in Henderson Co. TN", states that this was originally the family burial ground of John Harmon (sometimes spelled Harman) (1780-1851) and his white relatives and neighbors. The black section is evidently the adjoining wire-fenced area, on the north side of the cemetery, barren of tombstones. Some concrete blocks may mark graves. Death certificates indicate the names of at least two black are persons buried here.
