1935 D.A.R. plaque on grounds of the Flatlands Reformed Church notes that Capt. John Underhill, local Indians, Continental and British troops, Lord Cornwallis, and President George Washington passed by this site on Brooklyn's historic Kings Highway, established in 1636.

Founded in 1654, the Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church and burial ground are located in a park-like setting off historic Kings Highway in Brooklyn. The present building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is in the Greek Revival style and dates from 1854.
