Pilot Knob Cemetery was Leavenworth's first cemetery and was started in the mid-1800's.

In 1856 the land was donated and was renamed Mount Aurora Cemetery.

Later (late 1800's, early 1900's), the City of Leavenworth needed the hill for a new cistern and arranged to move the burials to other local cemeteries. Over 160 caskets were moved.
