Although there is a variety of names buried in the Mills Cemetery, almost all (about 95%) are related in one way or another. This is truly a family cemetery.
When this area was first used as a cemetery is unknown but it was probably in the 1850's as the Mills settled in this area about this time. There are many worn and illegible small tablet type grave markers in this cemetery. Based on my past experience, I would say these worn and illegible markers date to a period of the 1850's -1860's. They may be the burial of confederate soldiers as the markers resemble the type and size of military markers of the civil war era.
If you know of family members who might have been buried in this cemetery during the period of 1800 - 1900, please contact Cyndi Bolt at the email address above or William S. McDowell (a Mills descendant) at [email protected] Be sure to include "Mills Cemetery" in the subject line.
