The Marlborough Primitive Baptist Church was established, 14 Jul 1810, in a log cabin. When the congregation became too large for the cabin a new church was built nearby that included a cemetery. A new brick church, built in 1871, was destroyed by a windstorm in 1916. A larger frame structure was built the following year. The Church and Cemetery both moved to the present location in 1948, by the Army Corp of Engineers to make way for the Delaware Dam Project. Careful attention to detail included the relocation; Horseshoe and Leonardsburg Road. Over 1200 grave sites were ceremoniously moved in the exact order and position as they were previously with many family members as witnesses. The church building was also moved and positioned as it had been. The name Marlborough came from Marlborough, Ulster County, New York where most of the founders hailed from originally. About 1950 the Church shortened its name to Marlboro, the Cemetery, however, elected to keep Marlborough as it was originally spelled.
