This cemetery is also known as Case Cemetery and is located on route 17 in East Readfield, Kennebec County, Maine

Case Cemetery was donated by Mr. Barber in 1789 (before Isaac Case came to town in 1792). There are many old graves here marked by fieldstones only.

By 1793 Rev. Isaac Case had built a large enough following to build a Baptist meeting house - the first in these parts. The church was built adjacent to Barber Cemetery until 1839 when the majority of the congregation (by then living in North Manchester) voted to move the building closer to their homes. The church remains active (in 2013) and is called North Manchester Meetinghouse. It is no longer Baptist but non-denominational.
Around the time of the American National Bicentennial Readfield renamed the cemetery Case Cemetery.

Rev. Isaac Case memorial - seen in the distance on right - sits where the pulpit of his church once sat. The church was built in 1793 by his Baptist congregation - the first to be built in this area of Maine. By 1839 the majority of the congregation was living in North Manchester (then still part of Readfield) and they wanted to move the building closer to their homes. It was voted upon and moved to Scribner Hill Road and remains active (2013). Now called North Manchester Meeting House and it is non-denominational rather than Baptist.

North Manchester Meetinghouse was built in 1793 at the location of Case Cemetery in East Readfield. It now sits next to Scribner Hill Cemetery in North Manchester. The congregation voted to move it there in 1839.

At the entrance to Case Cemetery are these four posts. These were set near the entrance to where Case's Baptist Meeting House once sat. Perhaps they were hitching posts at one time?
