Here are the correct directions to the Gates-Perry Cemetery:
From Brenham, Washington Co, TX
1. Take Highway 105 East
2. Right on FM 2193 - which becomes/joins FM1155 North
3. Right on FM 2726 (incorrectly labeled 2776 on County Map)
4. Right on Egypt Lane
5. Pass Brown College Lane (do not turn on it; stay on Egypt Lane)
6. On Right will be a large stone entry
7. The road leads around a large circular stone structure.
8. Follow the circle around and to the left.
9. On your left - on the slanted top of a hill is a reinforced stone wall with wooden makeshift gate - this is the Gates-Perry Cemetery.
9. There are many flies, and inside are big deep holes where some kind of animals live so do be careful.
The library's cemetery book as well as Internet directions say it is near Flat Prairie Road - NOT TRUE - and others say it is near Rocky Creek - also NOT TRUE - and you will spend the day going in circles and questioning your sanity for not being able to find it.
Inside the rock wall are the graves of
CATHERINE HARDIN GATES, her son AMOS GATES, his son, WILLIAM C. GATES, Amos' daughter, JANE GATES PERRY, her husband, DR. DUKE PERRY.
There are smoothly worn-away headstones that must mark the graves of LYDIA LAKEY GATES, wife of Amos; WILLIAM GATES, his father, possibly his brother SAMUEL L. GATES, and children of the Gates-Perry families.
Buried next to Amos Gates is WILLIAM MITCHELL DAVIDSON, who is considered to be related in some manner, possibly on through the Hardin family or due to a relationship with Samuel Davidson who was also one of the original Old Three Hundred.
