Old Magee
Magee, Simpson County, Mississippi, USA
LOCATED SEC 26 RNG 5E TWP 1N
April 12, 2001 Magee Courier
The Old Magee Family Cemetery is located just outside the City of Magee on Old Post Office Road in the Old Magee sub-division. It's one of the county's oldest and its upkeep is based on donations mostly from family members and/or friends of the family. [The cemetery is now privately owned]
This historic burial place was first started in the old town of Magee many, many years ago. The town of Magee, as it was known then, was named after the first postmaster of Magee, Robert Solomon Magee.
The cemetery has two confederate soldiers buried there. Robert Solomon Magee, born March 2, 1845, was buried there after his death on December 3, 1888. He was a member of Company B, Mississippi, Infantry CSA, and Richard Tullos, a member of Company A, Mississippi Calvary is also buried in the cemetery. No birth date nor death date is available for Tullos.
The cemetery took on the name of Bishop Cemetery following the burial of several members (estimated at eight) of the Bishop family at its present location.
Lerah Bishop was born on March 20, 1883 and buried in the cemetery on December 5, 1917. Bishop also had two infants buried in the cemetery in the early 1900's.
A lot of the graves in the cemetery have no markers so it is unsure who is buried in some of the graves.
As of late, two brothers, Boyd [now deceased] and Billy Bishop [now deceased] have been responsible for the upkeep of the cemetery. Anyone wishing to make a donation ...[removed]
------
T.S. Bishop is also buried here with his wife and several children. He too was a confederate soldier, member of Company: A Unit: 6 Mississippi Infantry. Rank - Induction: Private Rank - Discharge: Private.
