From Augusta, GA, it is located across the Savannah River. Take US 1 (Jefferson Davis Hwy) from Augusta, GA. Cross the Savannah River and go to first Exit loop US 25 toward Edgefield/Martintown Rd. Take a right on Vista Avenue. Then a left on Carolina Springs Rd. Take the first dirt road passed Tyler Avenue which is Holly Lane. The cemetery is on the right in the woods. The cemetery has been vandalized but there are many good readable tombstones. It looks like a big cemetery. The locals say that twice a year workers come and cut down trees and bushes and someone has marked with orange flags all the graves. The local Boy Scouts have erected a marker for the cemetery. There are also Confederate Soldiers buried here.
If you get lost, use Don's Collision (now called Sanders Paint & Body) on the Jefferson Davis Hwy as a guide. The business is directly below the cemetery. The cemetery is on the bluff or hill called Schultz Hill.
I have found many tombstones in the cemetery and photographed them. My relatives are the
Carrie/Hill/Cunningham family buried within the iron fence. There are still many other tombstones to find.
This is a White and an African American Cemetery. This was a white cemetery up until the 1870's.
The cemetery needs to be maintained on a consistent basis before all the tombstones are unreadable and destroyed. (The vines are destroying the box tombs.) Please consider helping this cemetery if you live in the area.
Update: May 2011-The North Augusta Heritage Society has recently been out to the cemetery and done a great job of clearing away some of the foliage.
Update: August 2011-The Boy Scouts have been doing a great job clearing away the foliage in the cemetery for several weeks.
Update: August 2012-foliage has been cleared around iron fence and graves within iron fence
