In 1831 the property was deeded to Jesse Skinner by the US government.
Sep 9, 1836-Alanson and Sarah Hurd to Jesse Skinner 6.03 acres. Hurd was the owner of the Iron Ore Mine and foundry there.
Dec 30, 1840-John Meyer to Jesse Skinner 3 acres
Jun 8, 1852-Jesse Skinner to Charles I Wilkerson (his grandson)140 acres.
Dec 8, 1860-Charles Wilkerson to John Gipson 140 acres.
Nov 11, 1861-Wilkerson to James Good.
Description of the cemetery:
"Commencing at a stake (set for the NW corner of the above described land)from which a sycamore 5 in di. brs, N 22 2/3* east 119 links and a west walnut 14 in di brs S. 31 1/2* E, 175 links thence south 70* E 4 chains and 4 links thence south 17* west, 3 chains and 31 links to a stake set for the northeast corner of said graveyard, thence south 80* and 30' east 1 chain and 8 links, then north 81* and 40' east 1 chain and 13 links, thence north 9* and 30' west 1 chain and 7 links to the northeast corner and the place beginning, containing 12/100ths of an acre"
Since there are no stones left to record, we have to rely on a DAR inventory (1929), a Jan. 29, 1934 and Mar 20, 1939 South Bend Tribune articles and an old notebook that contains genealogical data on the Teel Family.
The Grave Registration Project Workers visited the cemetery in 1939 and noted there were about 20-25 stones in 1918.
Work for the collection of these names was performed by the St.Joseph County Genealogical Association. Without their hard work and passion for memorializing we would never be blessed with this information that is so valuable for genealogists. They have published 5 volumes of cemetery records for St. Joseph Co, IN
