Crane Family Plot

CRANE CEMETERY
The Crane Cemetery is located in the NW corner of the N ½ of SE ¼ of Section 2, township 117, Range 4.
Caroline M Simons, the widow of Artemus Simons, sold this 80 acres to Peter B. Crane, March 11, 1884. Peter P. Crane reserved one acre of this land, which lies in a square in NW corner on May 26, 1885.
The little plot was first used as a burial ground early in 1871, and gradually became a community cemetery. On November 22, 1897 P. B. Crane had the cemetery plotted and recorded it at the Register of Deeds office.
When the present Montevideo City Cemetery was plotted several of the bodies from the Crane Cemetery were moved to it. One removal shows up in the 1939 WPA book of Chippewa Cemeteries.
Mary Crane Simons, Daughter of V. G. Crane and
Wife of Charles W. Simons, Died June 28, 1872
Age 20 Yrs 5 mos.
(This body has been removed to Montevideo Cemetery.
Records disagree on the date of death (June 11 1873)).
I only know of three markers. I found one only because I stepped on its edges and dug through two inches of grass to find Almira Reynolds marker.
Locals can find this cemetery by driving to the old M&M Ballroom between Watson and Montevideo and look at the small woods half mile to the SW in the middle of the section.
