Add PhotosAs of August 2008, phone numbers for the Sidney Mine Company are: 606-353-7201, 606-237-0143, 606-353-8855.
After entering Pikeville, KY on Route 23 from the north, make a left turn on Highway 119 toward Williamson (?). Drive about 7-10 miles until reaching the Kimper (to 194) exit. It circles around and comes to a "T" intersection. This is 194, and the sigh says "Bent Branch."
Make a left turn. Continue driving past a Kellogg Factory. Between mile markers 22 & 23. On the right you will see a coal conveyor and tower. Shortly thereafter, on the right there is a slight "truck entering" driveway with a gate. There is a second entrance maybe 100 feet farther on.
Turn into the drive. Very shortly there is a wooden bridge on the right. Turn right and you will see a bunch of RR tracks. Maybe 200 feet on the left you can see a drive on the left. It goes across the RR tracks and up into a small clearing (maybe 150 feet). The Gannon cemetery is there.
Approaching the area, on the far left side there is a fairly new tombstone for the Gannon Family. Daniel, Jonathan and others are toward the opposite direction and slightly back toward your car, underneath some trees. There are four OLD stones.
The Williams family are nearby.
Thee are also a number of Syke family members.
Good luck and happy hunting,
Mark Brown
