Teampaill Mealóg meaning the Church of St. Mealóg, shortened to Templeogue.
The cemetery was opened in the early 1930's as an extension to the old graveyard surrounding an early medieval period church, now in ruins.
Templeogue Cemetery (Old Section)
The district was then a predominantly agricultural area.
In the late 1970's, the surrounding area was developed for housing, to meet the needs of the expanding city.
