Dedicated to the city's patron saint, San Vigilio, records that indicate the first church was built on the burial ground of this saint, martyred in the 5th century. Work began on the cathedral in the 11th century, and in 1212, enlargement and redesign began that continued for several centuries. The high Altar with a baroque canopy above, erected in the middle of the 18th century, holds the urn with the relics of San Vigilio.
