The cemetery is located on the west side of 22-2-9(-W1) on the edge of the hill overlooking the Pembina Valley. The land was given by John Fergusson, who came to the district in 1881. A group of interested citizens cleaned this property up in 1972.

Established in 1885, the cemetery had fallen into serious disrepair until a group of concerned residents took matters in hand. Tombstones have been placed in a row on a long concrete slab or pier.

This small cemetery, associated with a church located nearby, was established in 1885 on land donated by local farmer John Fergusson. The first burial was John's son Colin. In 1972, the monuments were aligned in a row on a base of concrete.

As noted above, a part of the town's story and those of its inhabitants from the early days of European settlement through roughly 1979 is told in the volume "Turning Leaves - A History of La Riviere and District", especially starting on page 86, where there is an extensive list of burials known to the date of publication. A free digital version of this and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society (reference #0096), transcribed by a member or members in 1991. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI). Some additional information is contained in the 1996 MGS publication "Carved in Stone: Manitoba Cemeteries and Burial Sites" (revised edition, Special Projects Publication, 106 pages).
Additionally, the local Pembina Manitou Archive curates a considerable collection of records and information about the people and places of the area, including a listing of those buried in this cemetery based on the files of the Rural Municipality of Pembina, the church files, and the information on the gravestones in the cemetery.
