This Family Plot was on the grounds of the Graves Plantation which was established by Benjamin Graves in about 1793. His son Nelson Graves continued to run the Farm until his death in 1853, when it was sold to James Martin (a Bro-in-law of Ben's son Richard Cole Graves), and has more recently been known as the Parrish Farm. It is located about 1/4 mile N of Midway on Hwy 62. The current Home there only dates to about 1890, but most of the original rock wall of the Graves Farm going up the hill still remains, but the Cemetery was plowed under long ago. This was the burying ground for Benjamin Graves & his wife Sallie (Cole), Nelson Graves & his wife (UNK), and numerous others now lost to history. There were estimated to be as many as 50 burials here, including many Slaves. Per the 1853 Will of Nelson Graves (a member of the American Colonization Society), his Slaves were granted their Freedom as well as half his Estate......some chose passage to Liberia, while others took up life as Freemen here and moved on.
