The project was formulated with the meeting of Fr Brandon Filbert, Senior Warden and architect Kerry Vanderzanden, John Jordan, Steve Hibbs and landscape designer Ron Field. Together they agreed the garden would be three things, secluded, simple and free...Ron's plans were based on the Trinity. There are three areas for burials: one straight ahead by the cross, which was given in memory of Jack Gabbert Sr, husband of Sunny Gabbert and father of Sister Marcia Hobart. It was crafted by the latter's cousin, Martin Gabbert, a well-known metal artist. Another burial site is to the left and the third is to the right. The Memorial Garden Gate was fashioned by Forest Grove metal artist Eric Canon.
There are only three kinds of plants in the garden: Davidi Viburnum, Nandina Domestica (also known as Heavenly bamboo) and Vine Maple. It is a sacred secluded place well suited for contemplation with concrete benches available. There are no headstones or markers. Instead, a memorial plaque in the Chapel lists each person buried there. There is a large window in the Chapel that looks out into the garden.
