This smallpox cemetery was the location of a pest house and is referenced in original Hot Springs City Council minutes dated April 13, 1896 when the city "paid for the use of a pest house" prior to construction of the City Smallpox Hospital and City Cemetery on Adams Street that same year. The cemetery, even today, is on the extreme edge of the city limits and is located in the woods about 1/4 mile west of Pleasant Valley Cemetery which is sometimes called the George Family Cemetery, though it is set apart and separate from that cemetery. Tombstones on this property include dates consistent with the 1895 smallpox epidemic.
