Add PhotosAccording to a local resident along Heavens Way, the cemetery was maintained by Ben Henricks in the late 1940s and 1950s. Mr. Hendricks passed presumably in the early 1950s and the cemetery stayed maintained for a few years afterward. In the 1970s, a roofer who lived to the west of the cemetery drove a skid steer over the cemetery rough grading it out.
Around the year 2000 or after, some of the Boyd descendants and grandchildren of Walker Boyd (who lived on Piney Creek Rd in the 20th century) visited cemetery and reportedly ‘recorded the cemetery' at the courthouse. A Pickens County Register that sometime people record surveys or deeds concerning cemeteries, but he wasn't sure was meant by recording a cemetery.
The local resident stated that there were 22 graves with small rounded concrete markers or rock markers all of which had no names or inscriptions.
Today (2020) there are two large oak trees near the center of the cemetery. The local resident advised that there were markers between the oaks, to the west of the oaks, to the northwest of the northern oak, and to the southwest of the southern oak. There is also a line of old chain-link fencing at the northern end of the cemetery.
An old road runs in a northwest/southeast direction just east / northeast of the cemetery. A small power/telephone post is about 20 feet north the northwest corner of the cemetery. A larger power/telephone pole is 25 feet west of where to marked for the northwest corner. If all of the leaves were removed, it's possible that there still could be broken rocks or makers in the ground.
In May 2020, the cemetery received its first attention for several decades and a path was cut around the cemetery. A fence and marker are being considered. GPS coordinates will be recorded if a fenced is placed as well as approximate grave locations.
