Add PhotosPeter and his brother John had immigrated to Maine from England with their father Soloman White sometime before 1769. John settled on the North West River and Soloman bought 130 acres of land in Gorham. Both sons served during the war against the British.
Peter and Alice had ten children. Their oldest son, Peter, built a large house on Windham Hill in Windham. Mark White lived on the White's Bridge farm and ran a fishing business and is said to have entertained many distinguished men at his house, including Daniel Webster, Wm Pitt Fessenden, Governor Parris, Major McClintock and others. Mark built the present house and was captain in the militia serving in Portland during the War of 1812. Their son Reuben died in Canada during the war of 1812. Their son Joseph, born in 1789, was a Baptist minister and lived on the Standish Neck and is also buried here.
