Sycamore Lick Road, Lewis County, West Virginia
The people recorded in this reading were taken from the work of Roy Bird Cook who was researching the Jackson family in the 1920's. Pages 216-218 & 222 which appears to information given to Cook by Cornelia B. Bassel, 1526 New Hampshire Avenue, Washington, DC.
Ruth White to Roy Bird Cook, p. 309 dated Jane Lew, August 2, 1929: "The Norris grave yard is in front of my dining room door, across the garden, just 65 steps. There is only a rock at the head and foot of the grave of Captain Norris (The tombstone for Captain Norris was added later). He came here from Virginia and lived and died on this site. There are only two marble monuments here. One for Juliet Jackson and the other for her sister Nancy Hille. The first person buried there was John Norris, the captain's son, 16 years old when he died in 1820 of typhoid fever."
"This cemetery is located near Jackson's Mill in Lewis County, WV. To reach it take US Route 19 north out of Weston, to the Jackson's Mill Road on the left (County Route 12). Proceed on the Jackson's Mill Road approximately 2.4 miles. Just before crossing the cement bridge over the West Fork River to the Mill, turn onto the road to the right which is called Sycamore Lick Road. Proceed on this road approximately ½ a mile. The cemetery is to the left on this in a meadow. It has four post at each corner and is in fair condition. It was read by Earl and Matha Byrd in October 1992". Cemeteries of Lewis County, W. VA and Adjacent Counties, Vol. IV, compiled by Matha Byrd, Chairman, HCPD Cemetery Committee, A Historical and Genealogical Society of Central West Virginia. Page 133.
