Excerpt from the History of Luzerne, Lackawanna, and Wyoming Counties, Pa. circa 1880 book: "Previous to the establishment of [Shawnee] cemetery burials were made on a knoll near the Boston Breaker. The Davenport, Hodge and Reynolds families each had their family cemeteries. The bodies are being removed from these old burial grounds to the Shawnee Cemetery..." Unsure if all graves were moved, but there are no remaining headstones.
