This is a narrow, but very long cemetery outside the village of Schulzendorf in the Dahme-Spreewald County in Brandenburg. This is not the only Schulzendorf in this state.
The cemetery office is right on site, usually open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 08:00 to 12:00 in the morning. There is a small parking lot off of Miersdorfer StraΓe. At the back of the cemetery there is a gate that leads out to a walkway with connection to Walther-Rathenau-StraΓe.
Right in the front of the cemetery chapel is a War Grave Section. The cemetery has a size of about acres 9.8 (40,000 mΒ²).
Please note that the graves in Germany are not perpetual. After a certain period of repose (15-30 years) the graves are being leveled and re-used. There is no toxic embalming being done in Germany, so the coffin and the corpse can decompose naturally. If the family of the deceased decides to purchase another period, the duration can be extended by another 15-30 years. Otherwise, the grave will be leveled and reused, the marker then used as gravel in road construction. War Graves are considered memorials and are kept up by the owner of the cemetery. Those are kept forever. Also, the town or owner of the cemetery might find a grave of historical significance and will protect and keep it indefinitely.
