The Basilique-Cathédrale Sainte-Marie et Sainte-Réparate de Nice is the seat of the Diocese of Nice. The current main structure was constructed between 1650 and 1685 with new structures and decorative elements added until 1949.
The original church on this site was consecrated in 1049 and was called St. Mary of the Castle. The relics of Saint Reparata arrived in Nice in 1060 and were housed in a chapel constructed at the foot of the castle.
The cathedral was declared a minor basilica on May 27 1949.
