This Cross from the German Lutheran Cemetery stands at the Philadelphia Memorial Park in Frazer, Chester County, PA, USA. In this dedicated section of the Park the graves from the Cemetery were re-interred. Several of the bronze markers can be seen on the ground there while some have been obscured over time by soil and grass clippings.

Note: Graves from the Philadelphia German Lutheran Cemetery, depending on how old they were, may have been moved twice. The first location of the GLC was around 4th & Cherry St. Those graves were moved to 31st & Lehigh sometime around 1880. Sadly, the second location was also closed around 1960 to allow for the building of a school. At that time, graves were reinterred to a new "German Lutheran Cemetery section" at the Philadelphia Memorial Park in Chester County PA, or to Greenmount Cemetery in Philadelphia, or to any other cemetery at the request of the family. Most graves were reinterred to the Philadelphia Memorial Park in Chester County.

The German Lutheran Cemetery Card Catalog (by family plot) is searchable on ancestry.com. Over 5000 names are listed there, but age, year of death, etc are not listed. Microfilms of the same card catalog (by family plot), and another microfilm of a card catalog (by deceased's name) is viewable at the PA Historical Society in downtown Philadelphia. The microfilm by deceased name might have more information on it than the one by family plot. The PHS also has microfilm of the GLC "Day Book", a ledger of daily internments at GLC from about 1880 to 1915. It is difficult to read (faded handwriting).

The original "Day Book" (circa 1870 to 1968) was sent to the research library of the Chester County Historical Society. The archivist there can do look-ups upon request for a modest fee. Email: [email protected].

The original Day Book includes more years than the microfilm at the PHS, but even that does not precede 1880 for some reason. The earliest Day Book (from the first GLC location) seems to be well hidden somewhere, or may have been lost to time.
