The main access to Elliot Cemetery is via this unpaved "leisure path" off a circle at the end of Deerfield Road. However, this area is within Hilton Head Plantation, a gated community with no public access. (It may be possible to gain permission to visit the cemetery via the Hilton Head Plantation Property Owners Association, PO Box 21940, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925, phone 843-681-8800.) The cemetery was established in the 1830s and has burials as recent as 2011. A 1987 archaeological survey of the island labeled the 1.6-acre cemetery, once connected to the Elliott family's Myrtle Bank Plantation, as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of about 10 cemeteries used by native islanders. The cemetery's name is spelled Elliot, though the only person by that name buried there is Denbow Elliott with two Ts.
