Thelma Evans Smith, 94, passed away on October 18, 2016 at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.

She was born on April 19, 1922 in Stockton, Kansas, to Walter and Hazel Lucille Miner Evans. As a child she grew up on a farm in Kansas. Later while living in Denver, Colorado, she worked as a flight attendant for Frontier Airlines.

Thelma married Earl Keller Smith in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, for time and all eternity on June 26, 1950. Thelma and Earl began raising their small family in Meeker and Craig, Colorado. On January 4, 1963, Earl died in an airplane accident leaving her to raise her children alone. She moved her family to Logan, Utah where she attended Utah State University, graduating in Elementary Education with honors. Thelma taught school for many years at North Park Elementary in North Logan.

Thelma is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having been called to positions in the Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School, and in the temple.

She had many interests including the arts, concerts, ballet, reading the Holy Scriptures, and all of the wonders of nature. Her greatest love is her family. The smiles came easily as she watched her eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Her children are convinced that she will always have a watchful eye on them, taking great joy in their talents and abilities.

Thelma is survived by her children, Jeffrey, Perry, Mark, and Earlene; and brother, Walter Evans. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Kathleen, Donna Lee, and Laura and her own small child who died in infancy, Jason.

We will honor her wishes by not having a viewing, but rather a Gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hillcrest 1st Ward, 1500 East, Logan, UT. Interment will follow at the Preston, Idaho Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all those who have had such kind hearts and words at this difficult time.
