Born December 10, 1923 in Olive Hill, KY to Arthur & Kate (Sargent) Crose, Gardie was a Mansfield resident the majority of his life. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and had retired from Empire Detroit Steel as a Ladle Crane Operator after 32 years of service. Gardie enjoyed fishing, hunting and trap shooting.
Survivors include three sons, Joe (Debbie) Crose, Eddie Crose and George (Karen) Crose all of Mansfield; two daughters,, Sandy Porter and Martha (Larry) Greer all of Mansfield; one step-daughter, Wanda (Dave) Copher or Morehead, KY; 18 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandson; one sister, Sylvia Doeling of Florida, other relatives and his caregiver Wayne Craft.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ellen Crose in 1988; second wife, Fern Crose in 2004; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service will be held Saturday August 20, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Pastor Glenn Phillips, of the Hilliside Church of God, will officiate with interment with full military honors in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lexington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
