Funeral services for Walter Clark Van Alstine, 48, prominent Southland dairyman and civic leader will be in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Van Alstine died in Kern General Hospital, Bakersfield, Tuesday night from burns suffered Sunday when his truck was struck from behind by a semitrailer-truck 12 miles south of Bakersfield on U.S. Highway 99.
The gas tank of his truck ignited after the vehicle crashed in a field.
Van Alstine has lived at 12936 Alondra Blvd. Norwalk, for more than 20 years. He was in the process of moving to a new dairy ranch near Bakersfield.
He is immediate past president of the Norwalk Rotary Club, a part president of the Cerritos College Bench Club and was second president of the former Excelsior Union High School District Citizens Advisory Committee that was instrumental in forming the Cerritos College District.
Van Alstine later served as a member of the Cerritos board of trustees, and was a member of the chamber of commerce in Norwalk and Artesia.
Survivors include Van Alstine's wife, Pauline; son, Walter Paul; daughter Jean Ann Banks of Westminster; sister, Maude Corrigan of Buena Park; three brothers, Ben, Frank and Ernest and four grandchildren.
