Mary E. Johnson, 62, of Shell Lake died Monday, February 25, 2013 at her sister Sandy's home after a brief but intense battle with leiomyosarcoma. She was born April 2, 1950 in Mountain Lake, MN to Donald and Florence (Strenge) Snook. She graduated from Crosby/Ironton High School in 1968. After high school Mary took a year off of school to work at Cedarbrook Manor Nursing Home to save money to attend nursing school. In 1970, she graduated from Anoka Technical College with a degree as a LPN. She worked at several major hospitals in the Minneapolis area. With the help of her hair stylist, Mary met Harlan Johnson. On October 1, 1977 they married in Crosby, MN, and they moved to Shell Lake, WI, where she worked at the Indianhead Medical Center until the present. Harlan preceded her in death on August 24, 2012. Mary was famous for her Christmas cookies, which she would bake, and Har would decorate. She also liked to cook, play cards and watch sports, but her real passion was reading.

Mary is survived by her mother, Florence Snook of Ironton, MN, 5 sisters, Sandra (John) Taylor of Deerwood, MN, Carol (Ken) Rood of Aitkin, MN, Karen (John) Rosecrans of Deerwood, MN, Patty (Jerry) Horazdovsky of Andover, MN and Sherie Rogers of Northfield, MN; her brother, Kenneth (Cece) Snook of Crosby, MN; 2 brothers-in-law: Darryl (Wilma) Johnson of Barronett and Kevin (Terri) Johnson of Spooner, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Salem Lutheran Church, Shell Lake, WI with Rev. Arvid Sundet officiating. Burial will be in Shell Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mark Johnson, Christian Rom, Mark Taylor, Shawn Taylor, Brad Rosecrans and Steve Richter.
