WEBER CITY, Va. - The angels in Heaven rejoiced when Howard Isaac Oaks went to be with the Lord on Dec. 1, 2008.
Howard, 82, was born on Aug. 27, 1926. He was the most loving husband, dad, papaw, and friend that this world has ever known. He was a veteran of World War II.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Dennie and Lovely Babb Oaks; his brother, Charlie Bill Oaks; a sister, Marie Arnold; and his son, Paul Oaks, all of Gate City.
Howard was married to the love of his life, Shirley Frasier Oaks for 61 blessed years. He is also survived by his four sons, Earnie Oaks of Kingsport, Mike Oaks and wife, Sherry of Church Hill, Bobby Oaks and wife, Terry of Gate City and Jeff Oaks and wife, Loretta of Gate City, Va.; his sister, Helen Oaks Brooks and husband, Kelly of Gate City; 12 grandchildren, Glenn, Krystal, Danny, Kim, Carrie, Becky, Brandy, Brittany, Allen, Jennifer, Tara and Cody. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 Hwy. 23N, Weber City, Va.
Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Jerry Hensley and Pastor Jimmy Gibson officiating.
Music will be provided by Carrie Oaks Osborne and Aaron Tipton and friends. A special remembrance of Howard will be given by Brittany and Jennifer Oaks.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va. by the American Legion Hammond Post # 3, Gate City Post #265 and the Virginia National Guard.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Oaks, Danny Wallen, Allen Oaks, Cody Oaks, Tommy Tipton, B.K. Addington, Bill Pearcy and Jack Pearcy.
Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to extend a thank you to his special caregiver, Loretta Oaks.
Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City is serving the Oaks family.
