Veronica M. (Queenie) Gerl, age 75, of Manitowoc, formerly of Valders, died Thursday evening, August 22, 1996 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, August 26, 1996, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clarks Mills. Rev. John Conrad will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
She was born May 13, 1921, in the town of Cato, daughter of the late John and Margaret Nate McCarthy. She attended St. Mary's School, Clarks Mills and was 1939 graduate of Valders High School. She and her husband operated Gerl's Tavern in Clarks Mills for ten years. She was then employed by christel's Piggly Wiggly in Valders and Copps Foods of Manitowoc. She married Lester Gerl at Clarks Mills 55 years ago. She was very active in her church being a life member of St. Mary's Christian Mothers and other church activities.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Gerl, four daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and ron Hickmann, Baldwin, Mich., Diane and Paul Isselmann, Kiel, Darlene and Robert Waniger, Clarks Mills, Vicky and Jeff Neumeyer, New Orleans, LA; eight grandchildren, Chris, Colleen and Greg Hickmann, Jeff, Jay and Jon Isselmann, Jennifer Endries, and Bobbi Jo Waniger; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Bailey Isselmann; two brothers, Earl and Shirley McCarthy, Manitowoc, LeRoy and Ruth McCarthy, Clarks Mills; four sisters, Lorraine and Jim Fischer, New Orleans, LA., Lauretta and Frank Bartel, Sheboygan, Marge Engelbrecht, Manitowoc, Charlotte Mae and Bill Redding, Pennsacola, Fla. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Friends may call at St. Mary's Church on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
