Wife of Former Commissioner Dies After 3 Weeks Illness
Mrs. C. John Nelson passed away at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha on last Monday following an illness of three weeks as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage on June 1. She had been in poor health for nearly a year and was a patient in the hospital most of the time since April.
As Martha Elizabeth Sutton, she was born in Washington County, Virginia, on September 11, 1864. She came to Nebraska with her family in March of 1892 and on April 5, 1893, she married C. John Nelson. With the exception of eight years spent in Blair, during her entire married life she resided on the Nelson farm south of Blair. Four children were born to their union: Mrs. Oscar Hopkins of Blair, George W. Nelson of Hooper, Albae H. Nelson of Virginia and Alta M. Nelson of Omaha.
Besides her husband and children she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. . R. Crutzinger and Mrs. R.L. Stalcup of Blair; four brothers, W.S. Sutton of Hooper, C.C. Sutton of Hennessey, Oklahoma, R.L. Sutton of Covington, Oklahoma, and C.R. Sutton of Blair; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services are being held this, Thursday, afternoon, July 11, at the local Methodist church with Rev. C.R. Hamilton in charge, and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery.
