Daisy was born in DeWitt County, likely on the family farm near Farmer City. In 1901 she moved with her parents and four siblings to a farm just south of Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa.

In the 1910 federal census Daisy is listed in Oskaloosa living with her parents and working as a bookkeeper for the Lathrop Grocery. On 1/13/1911 she married Ray Clark Lathrop in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa. Ray, the son of Sam Lathrop and Carrie Prine, was born 12/8/1889 in Omaha, NE. According to Ray's WWI draft registration record, in 1917 Ray and Daisy lived at 4313 Upton Avenue South in Minneapolis and Ray worked as a bartender in downtown Minneapolis at 248 Hennepin Avenue. They moved to Chicago later; in the 1930 census they are listed at 6419 Harper Avenue, with Ray as a butcher and Daisy as a bookkeeper at a wholesale plumbing firm. In the 1940 census she and Ray are living at 7118 Ridgeland in Chicago; she is a clerk for a wholesale heating firm and he is a bartender at a tavern. The State of Illinois Death Index lists Ray's death certificate lists his date of death as 6/10/1943; Ray died at home of heart issues.

Daisy married John F. Ryan on 6/15/1946; John had been married to Stella M. White who died 12/6/1945. John and Stella lived in the same apartment block as Ray and Daisy in the 1940 census and John is listed as a tavern owner. John, who died in 1953, is buried next to his first wife Stella at St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park and Daisy is buried next to her first husband Ray Lathrop at Oak Woods.

The following is a portion of an article from an unknown newspaper about Daisy's death in an auto accident:

"Daisy Ryan Killed in Friday Mishap.

Just two days before her 90th birthday, longtime Midlothianite Daisy Ryan was killed in an accident Friday at the corner of 147th and Pulaski.

The lively little octogenarian lady had been shopping in the business district as she crossed Pulaski - from the Milen's gas station corner toward Arthur Treacher's - with the green light, just before 2 o'clock. According to witnesses, she paused in the middle of the street for a few seconds to talk to a friend. Seeing the light had changed, she dashed quickly across, when she was struck by a van and thrown some 25 feet into 147th street.

The driver of the van, who was headed north in the middle lane, did not see Mrs. Ryan until he struck her, his view obscured by a second van, which had halted in the inside lane to allow her to pass. Witnesses said that there was "no way" in which the tragedy could have been averted... [driver's name omitted from this posting...]

Mrs. Ryan, born on November 11, 1889 in downstate Farmer City, Illinois, had lived in Midlothian for 30 years, alone in her little house near 148th and Kildare. She was preceded in death in 1953 by her husband John, and had no children.

Very vivacious and active, Mrs. Ryan had worked as a comptometer operator in the Loop until four years ago. A niece and nephew had planned a celebration in honor of her 90th birthday which would have been Sunday.

Services were held Tuesday morning at the Hickey Chapel in Midlothian, with burial in Oak Woods Cemetery. Surviving are nephews Jack and George Spratt; nieces Gladys Spratt, Katherine Nolan and Frances Coppersmith, and 14 grand nieces and nephews."

Plot location notes: proceed south from office on Cathedral Elm Drive to Section T ("Trinity Knoll") to the south end of that section; Daisy and Ray's stone is in the second row in from Cathedral and about 12 stones north of the south end of the section.
