Charles Cole Kibler, age 83, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, June 16, 2010, at the Community Healthcare Center following an extended illness.

On August 16, 1926, Charles was born in Sulphur Springs, Ohio, the son of the late Francis and Lola (Cole) Kibler. He graduated from Claridon High School in the Class of 1945.

Shortly after graduating, Charles enlisted in the U. S. Army to help serve his beloved country in the fight of World War II. He was stationed in Italy and served in the European Theatre, earning a victory medal with his fellow soldiers.

Before leaving for the war, Charles met a young woman whom he immediately "took a shine" to, Jean Mountz, while their parents were visiting. They continued communicating and she faithfully awaited his return from the war. He went straight to be by her side upon his return, and they would marry soon thereafter, on May 9, 1948, at a chapel in Columbus. He truly loved to hear her sing, especially when she was on WMRN. "He took every opportunity to show his love for her", and together they shared over sixty two wonderful years of marriage.

Upon his honorable discharge, Charles returned to work in Marion beginning as a linesman for the General Telephone Company. Later, he worked as a salesman for Omar Bakery and the Canteen Company, where his legs were badly injured in an industrial accident while driving. After diligently working to rehabilitate himself, Charles returned to work for Jim Dugan's as a stockman for over ten years until his retirement. He had been a member of the Teamster's Union.

A man of deep faith, Charles and Jean together shared an affiliation with the United School of Christianity based out of Missouri. Together they shared daily prayer time and followed their programs and materials.

An avid sports fan, Charles loved rooting for his Cincinnati Reds, developing a love for baseball by playing when he was younger. He also enjoyed watching his OSU Buckeyes play basketball.

A hardworking and honest man, Charles had a way with numbers, as he could handle the math of bookkeeping and figures all in his head.

First and foremost though, Charles was a family man and he let everyone know he "loved his three girls", referring to his wife and two daughters. "His family meant everything to him", and he would do anything within his power for them. He was overwhelmingly "proud" of his children and grandchildren for everything about them and for their accomplishments.

Charles will be dearly missed by his wife, Jean Kibler of Marion; two daughters: Amy (John) Neville of Marion, and their children: Matthew (Lisa) Neville of Marion, and Wesley Neville of Nevada; and Wendy (Walt) Nichols of Delaware, and their children: Courtney Gerhart of Delaware, Amy Nichols of Delaware, and Chris (Dan) Allwine of Athens; and four great-grandchildren: Nathan and Ryan Neville, Ben and Abby Allwine, and one on the way.

Including his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Melody Patrice Kibler in 1950.

The Kibler family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating his life and military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council will immediately follow at the graveside in Marion Cemetery, with Pastor Christopher Wiseman officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tolles Education Association Student Scholarship Fund, Meeker United Methodist Church, or St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Delaware, and they may be sent in care of the funeral home.
