Children and Friends Planned Happy Surprise For Pioneer Couple Which Was Held At Bethany Hall A golden wedding surprise was held in the Bethany Hall of the First Lutheran church Sunday, March twentieth. The honored couple were Mr. and Mrs. Elling Nelson of 313 Winter street of this city, who reached the fifthieth anniversary of their marriage that day.
The hall was beautifully decorated in green and white. Tables to seat two hundred guests were set in the center of the room. The color scheme for the tables were carried
out in green, yellow and white with yellow daffodils and green foliage used for flowers. Yellow tapers with white bows and yellow streamers on the white covers were also used for decorations.
A beautiful wedding cake graced the head table, at which the honored couple were seated. In the early afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were taken out motoring, after which they were taken to Bethany Hall where they were greeted by the large gathering of relatives and friends,
The many guests were then seated at the tables to enjoy the fine program that had been arranged.
Rev. S. T. Sorenson gave the blessing.
Violin solo by Miss Evelyn Skjonsberg, accompanied, at the
piano by Miss Peggy Anderson.
Talk by Rev. H. S. Rue.
Song by Miss Harriet Ohnstad, accompanied at the piano by Miss Luella Miller, both of Ellendale.
Talk by Mrs. S. S. Tviet.
Song by Boys' Quartet. Gordon Egertson, Bennett Opdahl, Loren Kaasa and Lauritz Bjorlie. Reading by Miss Lillian Frendin of Minneapolis.
A delicious dinner was then served in which the color scheme
of green, white and yellow was also carried out. The waitress were the Misses Evelyn, and Marion Skjonsberg, Peggy Anderson, Fern Hoverson, Helen Boyum of Albert Lea and Harriet Ohnstad, Laella Miner, and Agnes Kelson of Ellendale, Margaret Matson of Charles City, Ia and Mrs. Irvin Kranebell of Waterloo, Ia.
While the second course was being served the boys' quartet gave another song and an encore, After the dinner Rev. Soreoson gave a nice address, and also presented a
substantial purse of gold to the bride and groom. Other gifts and greeting cards were also presented before the benediction and doxology.
The bride of fifty years wore a corsage bouquet given her by her only grand daughter, Miss Harriet Kranebell of Waterloo, Ia. The bride's cake was presented by two daughters, Mrs. Edna Kenevan of Chicago and Mrs. Amanada Griffin of Waterloo. The only son, Ellworth Nelson, presided during the program. A telegram of congratulations and best wishes was read which had been sent by Mrs. Edna Kenevan and family who were unable to be present.
Ingeborg Hoverson and Elling Nelson were married in Dell, Faribault county in 1882 by Rev. T. H.Dahl. The couple lived on a farm near Dell for two years before moving to Albert Lea, where they have lived for forty-eight years.
The happy party dispersed wishing the couple the best of health and happiness, for many more years. The party was arranged by the daughters and the son assisted by
Mrs. John Hoverson and Mrs. Guy Minor.
