Estelle Evans (1906-1985) - Find a Grave Memorial

Actress. Her best known acting role in the motion picture "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962) as "Calpurnia". She was born in the New Providence District of the Bahamas, she was the eldest of eighteen children. Before acting, she was an acting teacher in New York for nearly two decades. Her acting career began in 1948 in the movie "The Quiet One" as a small role as the mother. Over the course of 37 years, she only had 10 acting credits including "The Quiet One". Those include seven movies; "The Quiet One", "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962), "The Learning Tree" (1969), "A Piece of the Action" (1977), "See China and Die" (TV Movie, 1981), "The Clairvoyant", (1982) and "Tales of the Unknown South" (TV Movie, 1984), and three television appearances on "Naked City" (1963), "Good Times" (1975) and "The Jeffersons" (1975). Some of her other siblings included actresses Rosanna Carter and Esther Rolle.
