Robert J. Burtle, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at his residence in Glenarm. He was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Springfield, Ill., the son of Harry J. and Mary R. Burtle. He married Bettie Lou Davidson in 1955 at Sacred Heart Church in Divernon.

Bob graduated from Ball High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He loved farming and devoted his life to it. He served on the Rural Electric Cooperative Board, Farm Bureau Board and was a 60 year member of the American Legion. Bob was an active member of Holy Cross Parish in Auburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and his daughter, Monica H. Burtle.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie L. Burtle, and children: Mary (Pat) Gasey, Sam (Donna) Burtle, Mark (Kelly) Burtle, Judy (Bob) Gerard, and Ernie (Sharon) Burtle; grandchildren: Mary Beth (Jeff) Dillman, Adam Burtle (companion, Meghan Ladage), Monica Gasey, Zach Burtle (fiancé, Lyndsee Kuchar), Brian Gasey, Kady Burtle, and Ryan Gerard; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Hartung, Eleanor (Fred) Frank and Eileen Burtle (Bernie Gottner); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Auburn. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the church with the Rev. James Palakudy and the Rev. Kevin Laughery officiating.

Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Glenarm.
