Clara Virginia Frayne was the daughter of the famous actor and sharpshooter Frank I Frayne. Her mother was Actress Clara Virginia Quigg Frayne, who went by the stage name Clara Butler. At the age of 3, young Clara performed on stage with her parents, although her stage career did not last long. Clara married William Coffin De Verna, whose family was also in the theatre, albeit they were stage managers and inventors of props. They married on January 1, 1894 in Manhattan, NY. In 1900, they lived at 328 40th Street, Manhattan, NY, with their children Frank and Edith. All was well in 1900, but two tragedies within the next six years would destroy the family. In 1903, eight year old Frank died. In 1906 Clara and William were expecting their third child. But the pregnancy went horrible wrong. Clara died on May 4, 1906 after three days of "uterine bleeding." She was only 31. Clara was buried with her son Frank De Verna. Her daughter Edith Deverna Hughes was later buried with them.
