DEATH TAKES MOSES JORDAN EARLY TODAY
Funeral Services For Prominent Christopher Man to Be Held Saturday
Moses Jordan died at 4 o'clock this morning at his home, 208 South Thomas St., Christopher, where he had been confined more than three weeks after suffering a heart attack while working in his garden. He was 72 years of age.
Jordan was born Feb. 26, 1867, west of Benton, where the Ralph Moore home now stands. He was a son of the late Edward M. and Mary (Ann Elizabeth Moser) Jordan. On Oct. 6, 1889, he was united in marriage with Mary Rentfro (dau. of Thomas M. Rentfro and Elvira Mulkey) in a home he had provided for his bride on a farm near Mulkeytown.
While in his youth he took an interest in politics which he followed until his death. During the Wilson administration he served a term as postmaster at Christopher and soon after Gov. Horner was elected governor, Jordan was named Franklin County agent for the state department of conservation. He was elected a precinct committeeman from Tyrone Twp. on numerous occasions. He was a member of the Christian Church and Odd Fellows lodge.
For 139 years the name Jordan has been identified with Franklin Co.
history, early ancestors of Moses Jordan being the seven Jordan brothers who came to this county in 1804 and helped the Browning and Estes families build a fort in what is now known as Cave Twp.
Outside of his immediate family Moses Jordan had one asset he loved most - that was to talk. He never tired of talking to his friends.
Surviving are his wife, with whom he had lived nearly fifty years, and four children, Mrs. Noble Bacon and Bryan Jordan, of Christopher; Mark Jordan, of Marion, Ind., and Everett Jordan, of Aurora,IL. Also surviving are two brothers and one sister, A.D. Jordan, living on Route 4 west of Benton; John Jordan, Brownsville, Texas, and Mrs. Mae Webb, of Northern Twp.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Christopher Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. M. P. Pierson, pastor of the Christian Church, officiating.
Interment will be at the Harrison Cemetery with the Gilbert Funeral Home directing.
