WORLD WAR II VETERAN

Herman was born on 17 January 1926 at Honolulu, Hawaii. He is the son of William and Mary M. (Pacanco) DeSouza. He is one of three siblings, the others being Harold Charles Souza and Mary Elenor (Souza) Rorrer. He also had two other half sisters, with the same mother and different fathers, Edna Ethel Gomes, and Beatrice Moniz.

He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve on 14 June 1945 at Honolulu, Hawaii. He was inducted as a AS, into the inactive reserve. He remained until being honorably discharged on 28 September 1945, for the convience of the government. Later he joined the United States Army, on 13 April 1946. After basic training and a assignment on the East coast, he was Honorably Discharged on 1 March 1947, as a private.

Herman returned to Honolulu and eventually gained employment with the Naval Ammunition Depot at Lualualei. He later transfered to the Naval Ammunition Depot at westlock, in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

On 17 April 1948 he Married Dora Marie Santos, at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Honolulu. Together they had three children, Herman Jr., Corine, and Clayton. This marriage continued until the death of Dora.

On 4 October 2014, in Waipahu, Hawaii Herman passed away. He was cremated. His remains were eventually buried in the National Memorial Cemetery Of The Pacific, at Diamond Head, Honolulu County, Hawaii.
