GLENMONT Albany attorney Robert J. ''Perk'' Sherwood, 72, of Standish Drive died Tuesday at his residence.
Mr. Sherwood was born in Rensselaer and had lived in Albany and Menands most of his life. He also had a residence in Delray Beach, Fla. Mr. Sherwood graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, Siena College in Loudonville and Albany Law School.
He worked most of his 47-year career at the firm of Hesson, Ford, Sherwood and Whalen. More recently, Mr. Sherwood was counsel to the firm of Seeley, Segel, Goldman & Mazzotta.
He served as an assistant county attorney for the County of Albany, as a hearing officer at the Albany County Family Court, and as acting village court justice for Menands for a number of years.
Mr. Sherwood was a former member of the Committee on Professional Standards of the Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department. He had been on the Board of Governors for many years.
A World War II Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Sherwood served in the Pacific, American and Chinese theaters as a member of the Eighth Marines, Second Marine Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Mr. Sherwood also served in the Korean War, and he retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel after also participating in the Marine Corps Reserve.
He was a former member of the American, New York state and Albany County Bar Associations. Mr. Sherwood was also a member of Wolfert's Roost Country Club and St. Mary's Church in Albany.
He was the widower of Katherine Wallace Sherwood.
Survivors include his wife, Amie Griffin Sherwood; four sons, Richard J. Sherwood of Guilderland, Dr. James W. Sherwood of Pittsfield, Mass., Robert G. Sherwood of Fairport, Monroe County, and Dr. John P. Griffin of Plattsburgh, Clinton County; two daughters, Ann McMullin of Mendham, N.J., and Patricia Traub of Delmar; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen St., Albany, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rensselaer.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
