Actress. A sexy, sultry voiced blonde leading lady of the 1940s and 1950s, she shared the screen with such leading men as Humphrey Bogart, Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas and Charlton Heston. Born Emma Matzo, to parents of Ukrainian ancestry, she was educated at Marywood College and later studied at the Alvienne School of Drama in New York. During this period, she took her stage name Elizabeth Scott and gained acting experience in stock productions. Her break happened, when she became an understudy for Tallulah Bankhead in the Broadway production of "Skin of Our Teeth" (1942 to 1943). Additionally, she earned extra money as a fashion model. Filmmaker Hal Wallis spotted her which led to a screen-test and her motion picture debut in "You Came Along" (1945). Her next two pictures were "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" (1946), opposite Kirk Douglas and "Dead Reckoning" opposite Humphrey Bogart. In "I Walk Alone", she shared the screen with both Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. She appeared with Charlton Heston in the thriller "Dark City" (1950). She retired from films in 1957 after the Elvis Presley picture "Loving You" and went on to have sparse TV roles. She made a brief comeback in motion pictures with the British film "Pulp" (1972), which starred Michael Caine. With the exception of lending her voice to a series of cat food commercials, she was completely separated from the entertainment industry. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
